Meet Our Founder

Rev. Sammy Necku is the visionary founder of Wisdom Children School, Agbozume. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he spent five years teaching at Grace Children's School in Lagos, Nigeria. During his time there, he was deeply troubled by the fact that his own children, unlike the pupils he taught in Lagos, could not communicate in English.
This personal challenge became his driving force. In December 1984, after being laid off by the Lagos State Schools Management Board, Rev. Necku made a bold decision that surprised his friends—he returned home to establish his own school instead of seeking another job in Nigeria.
In January 1985, Wisdom Children School was born in Rev. Necku's sitting and dining rooms with just 45 pupils. The response was overwhelming. By February, enrollment had reached 100 students, and by the end of the first academic year, the school had 400 pupils.

Wisdom Children's School was founded by Rev. Sammy Necku, a dedicated educator who returned from Nigeria with a dream. After spending five years teaching at Grace Children's School in Lagos, Sammy witnessed firsthand the transformative power of quality education. When he came home on holidays, he was dismayed that children in his community, including his own, could not communicate in English.
Despite economic challenges forcing his return from Nigeria in December 1984, and against the advice of friends including Mr. Victor Odozie (Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria), Sammy was determined to bring quality education home.

In January 1985, Wisdom Children's School was born in Sammy's sitting and dining rooms with 45 pupils and a school fee of three hundred cedis (¢300). The response was overwhelming - by the end of February, enrollment reached almost 100 students, and by the end of the first academic year, the school had about 400 pupils.
The rapid growth brought significant challenges. Sammy's dining and sitting rooms could no longer serve as classrooms, necessitating the construction of a three-classroom temporary structure. The school soon became fully-fledged with nursery, kindergarten, and primary departments.
As enrollment increased, space became critical. Through divine providence, adjacent land became available and was purchased with mobilized funds from parents and friends.
The narrow land required a storey building. Community support was phenomenal:
Result: A one-storey block with six classrooms, three offices and stores
Sammy's Nigeria experience helped source quality books from renowned publishers like Evans, Macmillan, and Oxford University Press. The system evolved from "read and leave" to students owning books, significantly improving academic performance.
While attracting trained teachers was challenging, the school developed a robust system with determined secondary school leavers receiving effective on-the-job training and supervision, proving skeptics wrong.
In 1990, through the able assistance of Mr. P.E.K. Sosu, another "Agege returnee" trained teacher, a junior secondary department was added. This expansion completed the school's vision of providing comprehensive education from nursery through junior high school.
The enrollment continued to increase over the years, and the school now boasts of over 800 pupils, a testament to the community's trust and the school's commitment to excellence.
In their first-ever participation in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Wisdom Children School achieved a stunning 100% pass rate with 13 students scoring aggregate six in their best six subjects, placing the school first in the entire Volta Region.
Master Kwabla Adade won the Best Pupil Award in Ketu District and represented the District at the Regional Level.
The second batch maintained the school's excellence tradition with all 42 candidates passing, though with fewer aggregate sixes, demonstrating consistent quality education.
Sports has been another major area of brilliance for Wisdom Children School. Contrary to what many people thought about the "small boys and girls of Wisdom," the school has been a force to reckon with in sports competition within the Agbozume zone of Ketu District.
In their first-ever participation in public schools' sports competition, Wisdom surprised everyone by winning the athletics trophy and successfully defending it for many years afterwards.
